I'm looking at the 9.7" iPad as a Father's Day gift to replace my dad's Surface Pro 3, but the Buyer's Guide here says not to buy. What a dilemma.

I get that the $249 deal is great for the 32GB, but it seems like there will be an updated 9.7" soon...
I don’t think there will be a new one soon. Woulda happened with the release of the air and the mini a few months ago. I think this one stays until 2020.

An amazing entry-level iPad at a reasonable price. Yet somehow MR users cry "Apple's Greed" with every new post.
It is a great deal and so far 10 comments deep every MR user seems to agree with that.

Does Apple have overpriced products, sure even the biggest Apple fans can admit that.

No need to try and stir up trouble, mate.

Because the iPad 6 is the ONLY reasonably priced Apple product.

And just barely.

My Gen 6 128 Cellular cost more than a nice laptop, before adding an additional $100 keyboard and $100 pencil. More than a nice refurb MacBook
from the Apple Store.
That model costs $560. What are you defining as a “nice” laptop that costs less?
