Kompanija eBay, koja je krajem 2005. godine za 2,6 milijardi dolara kupila kompaniju Skype Technologies SA, nedavno je obelodanila da se sporazum o kupovini nije odnosio na tehnologiju GlobalIndex, tako da eBay ima samo trajno ekskluzivno pravo na kori\u0161\u0107enje te tehnologije.Problem za kompaniju eBay se ogleda u tome \u0161to se sporna tehnologija nalazi u vlasni\u0161tvu kompanije Joltid, \u010diji vlasnici su Niklas Zenstrom i Janus Fris, nekada\u0161nji osniva\u010di i vlasnici kompanije Skype. Kompanija eBay je u martu ove godine podnela tu\u017ebu sudu u Londonu u kojoj tvrdi da Joltid namerava da jednostrano raskine ugovor o kori\u0161\u0107enju tehnologije. Ukoliko bi se ta tvrdnja zaista i ostvarila, eBay ne bi mogao dalje da legalno koristi tehnologiju na kojoj je zasnovan Skype. Isto tako, razvoj nove verzije softvera za Skype, koji eBay najavljuje ve\u0107 du\u017ee vreme, bio bi nemogu\u0107 bez saglasnosti kompanije Joltid.Dodatni problem za eBay predstavlja i to \u0161to su Zenstrom i Fris sredinom ove godine iskazali zainteresovanost da otkupe Skype od kompanije eBay, i obratili se za pomo\u0107 nekim privatnim fondovima. Na osnovu izve\u0161taja nekih medija, eBay bi mogao da tra\u017ei oko 1,7 milijardi dolara za Skype (prema nekim analiti\u010darima eBay je, ako se ura\u010dunaju i bonusi, platio Skype 3,1 milijardu dolara, tako da bi u slu\u010daju prodaje gubitak bio jo\u0161 ve\u0107i).Uprkos velikoj popularnosti i ogromnom porastu broja korisnika, koji danas iznosi oko 480 miliona, Skype donosi relativno mali prihod za eBay. Osnovna usluga \u2013 pozivi drugim korisnicima Skypea preko Interneta \u2013 potpuno je besplatna. Prihod koji je prema navodima lista Wall Street Journal u pro\u0161loj godini iznosio 550 miliona dolara (1,35 dolara po registrovanom korisniku) dolazi od naplate iznajmljivanja telefonskog broja koji mogu nazvati oni koji nisu \u010dlanovi Skypea (usluga se zove SkypeOut) i od konverzije govorne po\u0161te u tekst.
